Anna Oposa, is a fellow Filipino who has done many things for the environment, especially the sea. She started an organization called Save Philippine Seas as the co-founder at just 23 years old. She was even the first ever Filipino to receive the Future for Nature Award back in 2012! She has also been dedicated to conserving and protecting marine life and has an unwavering love for sharks. But, let’s further dive more into her life and contributions.
Anna is the co-founder of Save Philippine Seas and Marine Conservationist. But, what did she do before then? Born in 1988, she was a singer and writer in her teen years. But, deep in her heart, she has an overwhelming love for our environment and its beauty. She graduated in UP Diliman (University of The Philippines Diliman.) with a degree in BA English Studies. During 2011, she focused more on conserving the marine life in the Philippine Seas. The organization actually first started as a protest to an illegal wildlife trade case, but then in 2013, the campaign became a non-profit organization.
Speaking of her love for sharks, Anna Oposa also created the first sanctuary for sharks in the Philippines. The sanctuary also provides many more benefits aside from it being a safe place for sharks. Such as attracting tourism to the country which can help with its economy and also provide knowledge for locals and non-locals about conserving sharks and other marine life and take action. She also created a program to help the youth to become leaders in conserving life in the environment. Having love for the marine life also makes Anna have a passion with ocean-puns/jokes.
In conclusion, Anna Oposa has done many great things for the conservation of the seas. She has a never-ending love for the marine life and did many programs. Her story can tell us that despite only being young in age, you can still achieve big things, big dreams. Her contributions helped in the protection and promotion of conservation and can inspire us to take action in the world’s problems. Let’s continue to find and look for solutions and take action in protecting the seas and oceans we love!
